Who am I?
Greetings! I go by the name Don Don Kun, or just DDK for short. I’ve been a huge fan of anime for as long as I can remember, and rounding out my nerdy hobbies, I’m also really into film, animation and video games. The one thing you need to know about me is I love to analyze and discuss my hobbies, and I will make it a point of letting others know my opinions and perspectives on the stuff I am watching, playing or re-watching. As such, it should come as little surprise that I’m no stranger to blogging. Back in 2011, I started up an anime blog with a couple friends and ever since then I’ve been doing episode write-ups and editorials about the subject. However, in recent years, real-life commitments such as school and work made it difficult for me to find the time or state-of-mind to write. I ended up dropping off the map with blogging about anime and it’s only now that my situation has changed that I feel like it’s finally time to reclaim the one passion that was missing from my life.
The goal of this blog
In my view, the beauty of a visual medium such as anime or film is how an artist or creative team can weave a narrative or ideological thread into something that becomes very visceral. Whether it’s through a camera, animation or computer graphics, visual storytelling allows us to connect with ideas and emotions in a way that written text is unable to. While it’s unfair to assume every work will share the same approach, the above is my underlying approach when it comes to my engagement with anime.
Writing just happens to be the most accessible form of mass communication for me right now and I want to use this blog in such a way that may help foster discussion, ideas or even growth in the anime community. In more recent years, at least in the circle I’ve been a part of, there’s been a growing interest in the area of anime production; specifically staff, directors and animators. Although I am far from being an expert in this field, I am constantly learning and would like to share as many of my insights as I can with the denizens of the internet.
Although I am not limiting myself to writing about anime, it is definitely going to be the primary focus of this blog (as it’s the hobby I’m the most passionate about). That’s not to say there won’t be articles about film or video games in the future, but as of right now I’m leaning towards the Chinese cartoons.
In terms of a blogging schedule, I really don’t want to make any guarantees. Real life can strike at the worst moments and saying that I’m committing to a weekly or bi-weekly schedule will only bring disappointment. Right now, the best thing you can do is give me a follow on my Twitter (@Don_Don_Kun) to check for updates. My Twitter is also the best method of conversing with me on the fly, so if you want to suggest any topics that you’d like to see me write about (or give me a kick if I’m being lazy), feel free to do so.
Who is the
current cute girl in your avatar?
She is Nadja Applefield from the anime series Ashita no Nadja, and she is easily the cutest, sweetest, most adorable girl to come out of anime. She is a ray of sunshine and I’m pretty obsessed with her and her show right now.
